Australian Theatre Company was founded in April 2014 in Los Angeles, California and was awarded not-for-profit status in May 2015. ATC’s inaugural 2014-15 Season featured two significant projects: an acclaimed, fully- staged production of Holding The Man, which ran for eight weeks at the Matrix Theatre in Hollywood, and a summer play reading series highlighting Australian playwrights. Holding The Man became the Matrix Theatre’s most successful guest production in 45 years. Directed by world renowned Larry Moss and featuring puppets from one of the great puppet makers of the Jim Henson’s Workshop, it highlighted Australia’s response to the AIDS epidemic, the LGBT community and popular culture of the time through an iconic love story based on the memoir of Timothy Conigrave. Our play reading series featured a new play every Wednesday in June with the theme “Stage to Screen: Great Australian plays that inspired great Australian films.”

We also held our #BuildATC Fundraiser in August 2015, at the private residence of the Australian Consul General of Los Angeles, and featuring performances by exciting emerging Australian talent.
